Time-lapse seismic reservoir characterization

A reservoir model update of a mature chalk field - The South Arne case

The use of time-lapse seismic data has changed reservoir management of the South Arne field, where an increasing volume of marginal reserves are being targeted. This paper describes the use of the time-lapse seismic data in a physical context, where estimated time-lapse time-shifts are used for reservoir compaction estimation and its impact on the reservoir modelling. The time-lapse amplitude changes are inverted for change in acoustic impedance and vp/vs ratio. A reservoir state dependent rock physics model enables an estimation of saturation changes, which contains detailed information about the water sweep; information which is not present in neither seismic NRMS maps nor in the initial reservoir model.
