4D close-the-loop: Making the most of Predictions from reservoir simulations and Observationsfrom 4D seismic surveillance

Through the use of multiple examples, we show how 4D close-the-loop is helping to optimize overall field development, identify fluid movement and compartmentalization, refine in-fill drilling locations, and drive field rejuvenation at Atlantis. Observations from 4Dseismic monitoring have benefitted from the incorporation of Quantitative Interpretation (QI) of saturation and pressurechanges via pre-stack simultaneous and joint 4D inversionwhile predictions from reservoir simulations provide insight on observed fluid flow (history matching) and expected production (production forecasting). The combination of both, which can be thought of as “top-down” observationsand “bottom-up” predictions, provides a much greater degree of confidence in our understanding of the evolution of field production through time
